Mississippi Gulf Coast
We checked into the Gulf Island National Seashore campground on Davis Bayou on Wednesday, April 24. Our good friends Bill and Debbie joined us the following Monday for a few days of hiking, biking, kayaking, and eating!
The campground was shady with lots of hiking and biking trails where you could observe lots of wildlife including alligators, turtles, crabs, and birds.
Davis Bayou behind the visitor Center. We actually kayaked in the Bayou as well as in the Gulf of Mexico.

If you look closely, you will see a small alligator on the log. I didn't have my camera with me so had to use my phone. The Ranger told us that there were alligators up to 12 feet in length in Davis Bayou.

Front Beach in Ocean Springs, Mississippi had a beautiful white sand beach and wasn't at all crowded in April. I am sure in July you would have trouble finding a spot.
One of our favorite activities was to go to Front Beach just before sunset and watch the sun make some dramatic exits.
This picture was taken just before we launched our kayaks. We kayaked two different days and on the second day we paddled from the boat dock to Front Beach in Ocean Springs. It took about an hour and a half to get to the beach. On the way a dolphin decided to swim along with us. It followed us for nearly an hour and would jump either beside or in front of our kayaks. It was a pretty amazing experience.

Bill makes the best ceviche! Since it was shrimp season on the Gulf Coast I asked him to please make ceviche for us. It was delicious.
We enjoyed a great evening aboard the Betsy Ann paddlewheel boat for a dinner cruise along the coast. The weather was perfect, the food was delicious and the company was delightful!
Enjoying Bill's ceviche!
The Sunday before Bill and Debbie arrived we visited the Ocean Springs United Methodist Church. The people were friendly and the service was uplifting.
