Coeur D'Alene, Idaho
Hey folks, we left Winthrop, Washington yesterday, hoping to escape the smoke. We stopped in Coeur D'Alene, Idaho for the night and they set a record yesterday for the highest, AQI (air quality index) in the history of keeping those records! So much for escaping the smoke! It didn't look nearly as smokey as it had been in Winthrop to us so we got out and did a little exploring. Coeur D'Alene Lake is a very large lake and I think is a pretty big tourist spot normally. It was almost deserted yesterday because of air quality warnings but I wanted to post a few pictures.
The author of the children's book Mudgy & Millie, Susan Nipp, is from Coeur D'Alene so there was a statue of Mudgy and Millie downtown. Of course, I had to have my picture made with them.
This is one of the cruise boats that will take you all around Lake Coeur D'Alene. You can also rent small boats, ski doos, kayaks, paddleboards, etc.
I am going to post a few of the pictures I took on our drive here. I have been intrigued by the farmland and orchards we have seen all along our trip. Today we saw a lot of wheat being harvested and it made me think of my Uncle J.R. (Big Daddy) and Aunt Blanche. My brother, Mike, and I used to go stay with them in the summer and I remember the year they bought him a pair of striped overalls just like Big Daddy's and he would go out and ride the combine with Big Daddy while he was threshing the wheat while I stayed at home with Aunt Blanche. Good memories!
That's it for today. We will be moving on to a State Park in Montana today. The adventure continues!
