Zion National Park
We are currently back in Texas where we have been spending time with both Patrick's family and my family. Patrick's brother, Kelley, was put on hospice care and we returned to the area in time to spend several days with him before he passed away last Wednesday evening. We have been blessed to be able to stay at our friends' house in McKinney while they have been in Italy. I still have not posted pictures from our time in Zion and Bryce Canyon National Parks so I am going to try to get the Zion pictures posted today.
I am going to start with two pictures of sunset from Wahweap Campground on Lake Powell.
Theses were taken our last night at Lake Powell and the next pictures were taken on our very scenic drive to Zion National Park.
We stayed at Mt. Carmel Motel & Campground in Mt. Carmel, Utah on the east side of Zion National Park and took the very scenic Highway 9 from Mt. Carmel to the Zion. It was a beautiful drive with lots of steep switchbacks. We were glad that we weren't pulling the camper. The sign below tells you that the 1.1 mile tunnel is coming up.
The following pictures were taken from inside the tunnel. There were huge "windows" that were blasted in the side of the tunnel along the way. You couldn't stop to take pictures but I managed to get a few on one of our trips through the tunnel.
The next two pictures show the view of the road below from one of the switchbacks.
Checkerboard Mesa
The following pictures are from our hike to the Lower and Middle Emerald Pools waterfalls. The trail was beautiful.
Most of the Utah National Parks have been deserts but Zion goes from desert to swamp! There is enough water flowing that there are beautiful green areas.
The areas where plants literally grow out of the cliff walls are referred to as vertical gardens.
Checkerboard mesa again!
We actually hiked up to the narrows and waded in the river but we didn't take any pictures because we were a little afraid of dropping the phone or camera into the river and it getting washed away. The water was cold and pretty fast moving.
Well that's the end of our Zion photos. I'll try to get our Bryce Canyon shots posted soon. See you on the road.
