Grand Canyon Day 1
Before we start, just a note to those of you who have not discovered it yet. If you click on one of the pictures it will come up full screen. Then you can click on the thumbnails below and see any or all of the pictures full screen. The bigger pictures make a huge difference.
As we were driving to Grand Canyon National Park it started to snow! We drove through snow, sleet, rain, and fog. Patrick did a little white knuckle driving but the roads never got slippery so we made it just fine. We entered the East Gate of the Park and drove through and out the South Gate on the way to our campground so I'll share some of the many photos that I took of that beautiful drive.
We could tell from the dark clouds that something was falling in front of us but we thought it was rain until we drove into the falling snow.
Just a couple of pictures of the herd of horses that ran by us. There were several groups and I'm sure there were over 100 altogether.
These are just a few of the hundreds of pictures I took as we drove through the Park on the way to our campground.
Elk were everywhere as we drove through. You'll see more up close in the days to come.
The snow came down hard off and on for a while. It finally stopped and we went into the park for a while.

The park was socked in by fog for most of the day. You will see a huge difference in the pictures from today and the next two days.
One advantage to the foggy day was getting to see this huge rainbow. The dark spot in the middle is Patrick's shadow.
That's the end of Day 1 at Grand Canyon. Days 2 and 3 coming up!
