We had an amazing three days and nights in the beautiful and surreal surroundings of Arches National Park.
The above pictures were taken on our drive from the Arches NP entrance to the Devils Garden Campground. We were overwhelmed by the beauty around every turn and there were lots of sharp turns on this winding road.
On our first afternoon in the Park we hiked the Sand Dune and Broken Arch trails. The pictures above were taken on the Sand Dune Arch trail where we saw a Dad teaching his little girl who looked to be about 4 or 5 how to rock climb. You can't tell from this angle but the rock is about 25 feet tall and she climbed to the top and back down again. It made Pat and I a little nervous but they both seemed to know what they were doing.
Next was our hike to Broken Arch. It was a short easy hike to a pretty incredible sight.
This section of the park is known as the Fiery Furnace, not because it is hot inside but because it looks like flames. You have to have a guide to hike in this area and it is considered very strenuous hiking so we opted not to hike there.
Delicate Arch is probably the most iconic Arch in the Park. Here you see the poster at the viewing point and pictures taken from each of the two viewing points that you can hike to from the road. Later you will see pictures of us actually climbing up to Delicate Arch but that came later in the week after we had built up a little stamina and a lot of courage!
After our first day of exploring, we returned to our camp site with these views behind us. It was such a lovely campground, with beautiful views from every camp site but it was completely dry camping with no electricity and no water hook ups. That's why we only stayed here for three nights. With a generator and full fresh water tanks we made it just fine. No TV, no cell phone, no internet. I will admit that there was a little bit of withdrawal going on!
A comfy chair (thanks Bekah, Jeremy, and Clara, an adult beverage, a cool breeze, and time to relax, what could be better. Resting up for the next day's adventures.
