Around Cortez, Colorado
Yesterday, Friday, April 20 we explored the areas around Cortez and Delores, Colorado. We left the campground with our new friends Marion and Rich and drove north to Delores. There we drove around McKee reservoir where we saw the scenery change many times. We enjoyed seeing a small herd of elk and lots of cows and baby calves.
I thought of Warren Dismang every time I saw an old barn, cabin or corral. Here is one of the corrals that was used during the round-ups of old.
We think this was a red tailed hawk. It put on a aerobatic show for us, swooping, and diving for quite a while.
Just a few of the scenery changes we saw on our drive yesterday.
Here are a couple of shots of the elk. We weren't able to get close enough to really get a good picture.
The Lowry Pueblo Anasazi ruins. We have been to several Anasazi sites and this was one of the best. You can actually walk into the ruins and go through the maze of rooms right up to the kiva. It was a well preserved site.
That's it for now. Today we are doing laundry and getting the rig ready for the trip to Devil's Garden campground in Arches National Park. I can hardly wait to get there and see the arches up close.
